How to host sustainably

Sustainable hosting is about setting up our homes to minimise the emissions and waste we create and the resources we use.

Many people want to take action, but may not know where to start. Click through on each of the topics below and look at the actions you can take to reduce the emissions and waste your homes may create.

Sustainability is a journey. We don’t need to do everything all at once. The key thing is to start making small changes. Build on what you are doing and let your guests know about your actions. Chances are, you are already more sustainable than you think. Make sure you are prepared for when appliances break or if you’re renovating: you can make big improvements when you were going to be spending money anyway!

Where do household emissions come from?

The majority of the emissions in our home come from the energy we use to power our homes. By improving the efficiency of appliances and switching to a renewable power source we can dramatically reduce the operational emissions we produce. Insulating and stopping draughts will also save a bunch, improve guest comfort, and reduce the size of your next air conditioning / heating unit.

Guests are also very mindful of the touch points in our homes and the choices we make when buy these items. These small touches can go a long way to letting a guest know that you have taken the time to purchase items that align with your values.

Plus, supporting local business and the building community makes our suburbs and towns more resilient, and helps multiply your sustainable impact.
