Transport

Another large source of emissions comes from the transport we use. We can help our guests reduce their transport emissions during their stay, simply by sharing our local knowledge with them, and it doesn’t cost us anything. If you don’t know the answers ask other hosts, your local hosting community group, local friends and family or our hosting group. Here are some transport options to consider providing information about:

Electric Vehicles

  • Set up

    Set up an EV charger at your home. Decide what type and speed you will offer and whether you will charge guests to use it. For more information on EV charging, click here.

    Communicate

    • Add to your House Manual and Confirmation Letter:

      Let guests know you offer an EV charger.  Be clear about the type of charger, speed, if guests need to supply their own charging cords and if it is free or if a cost is involved.

      “We offer an EV charger that is a type 2 level 2, charger for free, please bring your own charging cable.”

    • Add photos to your listing: photo 1 close-up of the charger box/product; photo 2 of the charger connection, e.g., a 3-pin plug or cord; and photo 3 of the car spot with the EV charger in sight. Add captions to each photo.

    • Select the EV amenity so you can be found in searchs.

  • Set up

    • Find out what local charging options you have. Let guests know the type of charger, the speed/level and if they are free or pay to use. 

    • Find out what EV charging apps are best for your region.

    Communicate

    • Add to your House Manual and Confirmation Letter:
      Let guests know what local apps to use when planning a trip to your area. Mention the location of any chargers in your area and details such as speeds, types and cost.

    • Add photos to your Description.

  • Set up

    Find out what electric vehicle options are available in your area. Eg. Sixt network offers free charging through the NRMA & charge fox network.

    Communication

  • Set up

    Find out what local EV options are available for guests eg rent an EV from a local through EVEE.com or Turo.com.

    Let guests know if there are options to rent a car locally for a few days.

    “If you need to rent a car for a few days you may like to consider looking at EVEE or Turo and rent a car from a local - its like renting an airbnb but for an EV.”

Let guests know if they can access green taxi services in your area.

Find out what green taxi services are available in your area.

Communicate

Add to your House Manual:

Let guests know what options they have and any apps they will need:

“If you need a taxi you may like to consider booking a Uber Green. This will connect you to an EV or hybrid car.  To find one simply open the app and when booking an Uber scroll down and look for the green leaf symbol or ..”

Public Transport

Let guests know about the public transport options in your area.

Set up

Research the public transport options that guest may take to get to you from an airport, train or bus station. Include details of how to pay for public transport and any discounts or daily caps on fees.

Communicate

Add to your Check-in Letter:

Share details on the different transport routes to get to you with your guests.

“To get to us from the Airport, take the train to Circular Quay, from here transfer to the Manly Ferry, from here transfer to a Bus #162 on stand F and get off at stop New St/Gourlay Ave. To use our public transport you will need an opal card that can be bought at the train station. You can store credit on this and top it up either at the train station or on line once you register this.

Bike Hire

Let guests know if they can access bike hire in your area.

Set up

Research what options are available in your area. You may like to ask what ages they rent bikes to and if electric bikes are available.

Let guests know what options they have available when staying in your area.

“If you would like to rent a bike to explore our area you can rent bikes from Manly bikes. They have both regular and electric bikes available to rent and are suitable for a wide range of ages. They will also give you maps of the area with suggested bike paths.”

Let guests know about the walking routes in your area.

Set up

Research the walking routes that guests may take to get to local areas of interest.
